About Pat Blankenship
I am Leo, Gryffindor, first born, yogi and a huge fan of kids. I am a mother, a grandmother and a reader of everything from newspapers to novels to children’s books. I am an English major, a teacher, a retired lawyer and a writer. My favorite author right now is Honore Fanone Jeffers–but that changes from time to time!–and my favorite children’s picture book is Madeline. My favorite line from my favorite poem is “There is a community of the spirit…join it and feel the delight….” (Rumi)
I read voraciously as a child and excelled in spelling, reading and writing. I took art classes, speech and drama classes, piano lessons and voice lessons. My teachers changed my life forever and I will be eternally grateful. I traveled to Europe when I was 17 years old and fell in love with art.
By the time I was 10 years old I was determined to be an author. Today, finally, I am.
I graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, majoring in English. I graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law and practiced law in both Nashville and Murfreesboro until I retired a little early! I am today a writer.

Fun Facts
Most respected professionals: Teachers
Things that distract me: Afternoon sunshine pouring through my office window. And snack time.
Coffee Order: Americano con leche regular (Yo habla Espanol un poquito!)
Beverage Order: Sparkling white please!
I write because I love books and language and rhythm and art and kids. My children’s picture books depict children doing the really hard work of growing, learning, developing and becoming. My young characters have adults who support and respect and celebrate them for their greatest accomplishments—finding their voices, using their imaginations, coloring outside the lines.
My hope is that the little ones in your lives inspire you as much as mine do.
My also hope is that my books inspire you both.
